Them1tch ?s statement is twice the absolute thruth:
because first:
As far as I m concerned, I don t really care about the possibility to do my movies because there s indeed loads of guys who can borrow their equipment and their skills for nothing but showreel and credit.
because second: we all are or must be this kinda guy: I ve been working on a long feature in UK till last week and I ve earnt nothing but credit and contact with the director: it gave me the opportunity to experience as camera assistant and to be in charge for one of the CGI (I m trying to be both writer-director and CG artist). This won t be paid either but this guy ?s next movie has a 250,000 pounds budget if you see what I mean.
So don t worry, just believe in it and work hard. the more you can do (script, photography, boom, smoke, gaffer, make up, CGI, ..)on a shooting the bigger the probability you have to be hired and make contacts. You just have to accept that nobody will pay you before he s seen what you can do. Talk is cheap, especially in movie business. So be it!

I've been away for a bit because i've spent a few weekends on shooting a short i wrote. The final film (all 5 1/2 minutes of it) looks bloody good too.
I only wrote the script and managed to get a professional director/co-producer, DoP, art director, sound guy, light guy, and a runner, and the drama/acting students from Bretton Hall college near Leeds all for free.
Networking is a great way to get something you have written, shot. The director was contacted through www.shootingpeople.org and he got together the crew.
I don't mean to blow my own trumpet, but the only reason that they were doing it was because of the script. and it is amazing what people will do just for a place in the credits and for their showreel.
So if you have an idea or a script then polish it up and get someone else to make it for you.
We are definitly hoping to submit it for the Edinburgh film festival, then it's just fingers crossed.
I know few people will reply to this mail, but the jist is just to say that if you want to make a short film so badly, then u can do it for next to nothing. The only real cost to us was the miniDV cassettes for the XL1.
anyway, thanks for reading.
if u bothered.
